Edwin Edwards served as the governor of Louisiana for four terms (1972–1980, 1984–1988 and 1992–1996). Wildly popular during his stints as governor, Edwards’ momentous policy changes reshaping the politics of Louisiana were often overshadowed by his wit, charm and reputation. After his tumultuous fourth term, Edwards was indicted in 1998 by the federal government on 17 of 26 counts, including racketeering, extortion, money laundering, mail fraud and wire fraud. He began his ten year prison term in October 2002.
Leo Honeycutt –author, reporter, father, cook– is an award-winning television journalist of 28 years whose credits include CBS News, ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, and CNN as well as an exclusive in the Oval Office with President Ronald Reagan, a rare interview with Muhammad Ali, and being the first Louisianan to conduct a live interview with space shuttle astronauts in orbit.
In 2005, Mr. Honeycutt was selected by Edwards as his official biographer. After five years of exhaustive research and face-to-face interviews with Edwards, Edwin Edwards: Governor of Louisiana, An Authorized Biography by Leo Honeycutt was published in December 2009, becoming an instant bestseller with 10,000 sold in the first three days mostly in Baton Rouge. Twenty thousand sold within two weeks across Louisiana with orders for 25,000 more in January 2010. Mr. Honeycutt is President of Honeycutt Communications LLC.
Signed copies of Mr. Honeycutt’s book will be sold at the luncheon; cash or check only.
