As I prepare to step away from my role as President and CEO of the SWLA Economic Development Alliance, it’s time to reflect on the past 20 years. It’s been an incredible journey, one filled with challenges, growth, and above all, a deep sense of community. Together, we’ve
weathered hurricanes, celebrated industrial expansions, and built stronger partnerships that have positioned Southwest Louisiana as a powerhouse for economic development.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our dedicated staff, our board members, elected officials who support regionalism, and most importantly, our members -the businesses and citizens who call this region home. Your resilience and
determination has been a constant source of inspiration. 

As I pass the torch, I’m thrilled to welcome Scott Walker as the new CEO of the Alliance. Scott comes to us from the Lafayette, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, where his leadership has been nothing short of transformative. With a proven track record in fostering business growth and community engagement, Scott’s vision aligns perfectly with the mission and values of our organization. No doubt Scott will take the Alliance to new heights, continuing to strengthen our region and build on the foundation that has been established together.

Scott’s background in economic development, coupled with his passion for collaboration, makes him the ideal person to lead the Alliance into its next chapter. I encourage everyone in the region to join me in extending him a warm Southwest Louisiana welcome. As he begins his tenure February 10, let’s offer our support and enthusiasm for the exciting opportunities ahead. Hopefully, he will enjoy the same support from our board and elected officials as I have.

Next week, one of our most anticipated annual events will be the 121st Annual Chamber SWLA Banquet, scheduled for January 30th at Golden Nugget Casino Resort. This year’s banquet promises to be a memorable evening as hundreds of community leaders gather to celebrate our region and look toward the future. The keynote speaker for the event is Gray Swoope, a nationally recognized leader in economic development. Gray’s insights and expertise will undoubtedly provide valuable perspectives on how we can continue to drive growth and
innovation in Southwest Louisiana. 

The banquet is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to connect, reflect, and set our sights on the future. I encourage everyone to attend to hear about economic development trends from Gray Swoope and recognize the board of directors and officers who lead the organization. My personal thanks to Janie Fruge, President/CEO at the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, who has graciously agreed to serve another year as Board Chair to ensure a smooth transition. Janie’s dedication is rare and very much appreciated.

I leave The Alliance with a heart full of gratitude. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this region, to witness its perseverance, and to play a part in its ongoing story. Southwest Louisiana is a special place, not because of its industries or resources, but because of its people.

Thank you for the trust and support you’ve shown me over these two decades. I leave confident in the knowledge that the Alliance is in capable hands and that the best days for Southwest Louisiana are still to come. Let’s continue to work together, to dream big, and to achieve even greater things. I’ll always be cheering for this region from the sidelines. 

Here’s to a bright future for Southwest Louisiana, under Scott Walker’s leadership.
