The 2020 Civic Service Award was given to Jim Rock of the Lake Area Industry Alliance by George Swift, President/CEO of the Chamber SWLA and 2021 Chamber SWLA Chair Jim Giffin. (Pictured from left to right, Giffin, Rock, and Swift)
Each year, a Civic Service Award winner is selected based on their overall contribution to community progress, and their civic leadership over the past few years. This is the presentation given by George Swift:
"Some of these Civic Service Award winners are people that we know of, but don’t know. We see in the community doing great things, but removed from the programs, projects and services of the Chamber SWLA. This year’s is an exception. This year’s award recipient works closely with the Alliance. He has served on our Board of Directors, was a founding member of the I-10 Task Force, worked on the Calcasieu Parish Long-Term Community Recovery Plan, and is active Board Volunteer for the Community Foundation of SWLA.
"After retiring from a long career at PPG, he was a driving part of the development and construction of Lotte Chemicals which brought billions of dollars into the region and created hundreds of jobs. From Lotte, he stepped into the role of Executive Director of the Lake Area Industry Alliance, which means he is working closer than ever with the Chamber and its staff on propelling the interests of our regional economy.
"For being one of the hardest working retirees in the area if not the state, it is my pleasure to present out 2020 Civic Service Award to Jim Rock.”
