The Chamber SWLA has renamed the award -- that recognizes businesses that exhibit inclusion practices in day-t0-day operations – after a former board member.

Alliance/Chamber SWLA President and CEO George Swift said the Business Development and Inclusion Award has been renamed in memory of the late Thomas Clemons who served as a Chamber SWLA Executive Board member, specifically as Chairman of the Business Development and Inclusion Task Force.

Next year’s award winner will be presented with the Thomas Clemons Business Development and Inclusion Award.

“Thomas Clemons had a great impact on our Chamber community. He actively served as a board member and spearheaded several projects -- related to business development and inclusion -- that had an impact on the community,” Swift said.

Eric Cormier, the Alliance/Chamber SWLA’s Vice President of Policy and Strategic Development, serves as the agency liaison for the Business Development and Inclusion Task Force. He noted that business development for smaller businesses and making sure everyone in the community had the same opportunity to succeed were important causes to Clemons who passed away earlier this year.

“We are proud that his name will be associated with this award. Clemons was passionate about doors being open for people who wanted to work hard. He was thoroughly involved in the Task Force and provided wonderful leadership,” Cormier said.

Clemons was part-owner/founder of PrideStaff in Lake Charles which he started with his sister Tanya Cheer Clemons.

The Task Force advocates for Alliance/Chamber SWLA policies and initiatives that promote the region’s talent pool along with sharing best practices and principles for business development and inclusion within the community.
